I know I already did a Christmas Tag BUT this time it’s with Rich. I thought this would be 1.) fun for me to interview him, though he was not so keen at the word “interview” and 2.) let my readers get to know Rich a little bit more outside of the posts you’ve already seen him appear in. So here we go with Christmas Tag #2. Also, I’m writing the responses exactly as he says them when he says them so if you know his voice, it makes each response that much better.
1.) What is your Favorite Christmas Film?
“ A Christmas Story! Nononono, wait… the one that’s Claymation with the elf that fixes toys and the narwhals. The original one, before the movie ‘Elf’ stole it”… (pause while we google) “There! Ya that elf! Google, see: movie – Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer!”
Why do you like that one?
“there is something about Claymation that puts everyone at ease… I can’t quite put my finger on it-but I think it’s because each character is made by hand. It has something to do with the predictability and the motion of it all.”
2.) Have you ever had a white Christmas?
“Yup. Ya – last year. It was finally a white Christmas and I was one of the only ones that was able to drive around, so I drove the boys home and I was the only one out and about. And there was another one about 5 years ago- but I like last year because I liked being the only ones on the road, I felt like super dad taking the boys home”
3.) Where do you usually spend your holiday?
“I don’t think I’ve ever missed a holiday with my parents, so wherever they are.”
4.) What is your favorite Christmas song?
“I worked at a hardware store through two Christmas seasons, and unfortunately I loathe every Christmas song because I heard them on repeat from Thanksgiving from New Years, the SAME EIGHT SONGS EVERY SINGLE DAY. I’m currently a recovering Christmas song victim.”
What’s helping you recover?
“… just time… and talking about my victimization. The comfort of close friends. I’m a Christmas music SURVIVOR”
5.) Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?
“Sometimes if I’ve had too much wine and I have daddy guilt, I let the boys open one present on Christmas Eve.”
6.) Can you name all of Santa's Reindeer.
“Dancer, Prancer, Rudolph… Comet? Blitzen, Kardashian, and Jenner… No, I can’t.”
7.) What holiday traditions are you looking forward to most this year?
“uuuhhhhhmmmmmm Christmas Tree Night, because the kids are into it, and you light the tree and it signals to the whole household that ‘Tis the Season’ so, Christmas Tree.”
What’s your favorite Ornament?
“The silver 1991 snowflake ornament my mom got. Because snowflakes are symmetrical and so are the numbers.”
8.) Is your Christmas tree real or fake?
“It’s fake… I used to buy real trees and felt bad when you had to throw them away at the end of the season because that tree could have been something really great.”
9.) What is your all time favorite Christmas cookie or treat?
“Christmas tree cookie with the hot peppermint ornaments on it and green frosting… DUH”
10.) Be honest, do you like giving gifts, or receiving gifts.
“As a child I liked receiving gifts, as an adult I like giving gifts. I get bashful when people spend money on me…. And Christmas, really should happen only every four years like the Olympics”
11.) What is the best Christmas gift you've ever received?
“Usually something that my mom gets me that is useful and at the time I never give her enough credit, but later I realize how useful it is… thanks, Mom. I.E. Socks, Toothpaste, Chapstick.”
12.)What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?
“I think it would be cool to actually go to the North Pole… but I would settle for the Swiss Alps or something”
13.) Are you a pro present wrapper or do you fail miserably?
“I can hold my own… I’m no Martha Stewart”
14.) Most memorable Holiday moment?
“ I don’t know if it’s my most memorable, but my earliest is when my Grandpa dressed up as Santa and he held up his hands as he said ‘Ho Ho Ho’ and we could see that he was missing 6/10 fingers so we knew immediately who it was”
15.) What made you realize the truth about Santa?
Is that how you found out that he wasn’t the “real Santa”? (EDIT: Out loud for this question I asked ‘IS THAT HOW YOU FOUND OUT SANTA WASN’T REAL?’ in a very loud voice and then realized Max was in the other room - Sh!# hope he did not hear that.
“noooo I think it was when I realized that my parents and grandparents were a little more involved than they should be.”
16.) Do you make New Years Resolutions? Do you keep them?
“I don’t. I try to make sure that my resolutions are already in full swing way before New Years. I just try and make sure that I’m already doing. I just try to get better each year. Not in full swing, but each year work at being better… does that make sense?”
17.) What makes the holiday's special for you?
“When I come out on the other side and I take the ornaments down, I think ‘that was great… can’t wait to do it again next year’.”
Anything else you would like to add to this questionnaire?
“Everybody hang in there… there are bottles of wine at Trader Joe's for only $8.99.”
